Just in:  Florida Water Czar  promotes new jobs creation in Florida.

DEP leader Jerry Brooks commenting on the Billions needed to correct the FDEP permitted problems discussed the pressing need for common sense solutions.  All agencies will have to come together to help promote Florida.  EPA is currently being drawn into Florida by problematic management in old DEP.

Team Conservation Water Czar

Sewer Effluent Spill of 6.8 million gallons daily continues to pollute Drinking Water Aquifer of Central Florida-  No word yet if it can be stopped.  State of Emergency Declaration Requested by Water Czar

Team Conservation calls on Marion County Commission to declare immediate State of Emergency in Central Florida in response to Sewer Spill into Floridan Aquifer; biggest problem is the high nutrient load coming from discharging utilities that will draw the EPA down to Florida.  All state resources must be mobilized to protect threatened Wildlife habitats, drinking water and communities in 6 counties resulting from the double standard, easy on utilities, hard on everyone else.  Job killing, anti growth organizations have been funded by DEP and DCA. Their great success at stopping growth has back fired on the Old DEP.  Revenue is so short at every level of government that DCA and DEP may be reduced dramatically.  That would be ironic indeed.

Uncontrolled Algae growth in several area springs is only the tip of the iceberg.  The cause of the spill into the Alachua Sink hole and the Kanapaha Sewer plant discharge point is thought to be financial greed.  Utilities have been pocketing millions of dollars by dumping processed sewer effluent into the Floridan Aquifer.

In addition to the tragic Algae and millions of dollars loss to the Tourism industry, Thousands of square miles is now impacted by the years of Sewer Effluent spewing into the area drinking water aquifer.  The Various Intentional Spills present an imminent threat to the Central Florida Communities in Putnam, Alachua, Marion, Gilchrist, Levy, Lake and Sumter Counties. Efforts to stop the discharge to the aquifer have so far proven ineffective and stopping the pollution could take years, if it can be stopped as all is a political question.  Higher utility bills will be the short range outcome as the once clean drinking water undergoes cleanup.

Environment News Service. EPA to require FDEP to set Nitrate Standards. Utilities will have to admit to nitrate load to Aquifer and Springs.

Federal Lawsuit Filed to Halt Florida's Toxic Algae Blooms  Action may kill jobs in Florida.

TALLAHASSEE, Florida, July 18, 2008 (ENS) - Today, five environmental groups filed a lawsuit to compel the federal government and the state of Florida to set numeric limits on the excess nutrients which trigger harmful blooms of blue-green algae.

Algae blooms are fouling Florida's beaches, lakes, rivers, and springs, threatening public health, and closing swimming areas. Last month, a water treatment plant serving 30,000 Florida residents was shut down after a toxic blue-green algae bloom on the Caloosahatchee River threatened the plant's source water supply.

The public interest law firm Earthjustice is representing the Florida Wildlife Federation, Conservancy of Southwest Florida, Environmental Confederation of Southwest Florida, St. John's Riverkeeper, and Sierra Club in the case filed in federal court for the Northern District of Florida.
